Children's Holiday Parade
I am red, I hear laughter of young people, my back is beginning to feel the weight, and I know my Captain is telling all to hang on tight. My engine starts, my wheels begin to roll, my siren sounds loud and crisp in the winter air, and, as I move down the street, the slight breeze makes the decorations begin to tickle my sides. It has been a whole year and I am so happy to be back at work. But no, this is not work, I am the oldest Fire Truck that Los Gatos has and I have been commissioned to come out of retirement once a year to represent the Los Gatos Community Foundation, Inc. in the Children's Holiday Parade. I love it.
This two hour event which is held on the first Saturday morning in December will be full of floats and walking groups, between 250 to 300 entries I hear, to celebrate the coming holiday season. When Santa appears in his bright red sleigh, that is the signal that the festive event has come to a close and I will return to the fire house where I will shed the beautiful decorations that tickled my sides, my body will be shampooed and dried and I will stand tall and ready to be called upon every December by the Los Gatos Community Foundation.
